Tools for change

We’ve been talking to a couple of climate change organisations recently, and it’s inspired us to start thinking about how online environments can help individuals and organisations adapt.
What’s the goal here — to raise awareness? No — everyone knows we’re in an eighteen-wheeler heading for the cliff. We know this. We’re just too paralysed to steer. (For anyone who wants to understand how we got to this point, and how much worse the situation is than they realise, watch this gripping video). Maybe the goal should be — to put pressure on governments. Well, Greenpeace, The Climate Group and Friends of the Earth are just some of the organisations doing this. Join them, support them.
Can we help individuals measure their carbon footprint? Yes. We are all burning oil. The oil is running out. There is no alternative lined up. Remember the eighteen-wheeler? This is an unsustainable world. Use less oil now because one day you will have to. Because it buys us more time. Because the oil you use is depriving someone else who needs it more. Start today. Visit The Carbon Account.
So your carbon footprint is too big. We should help individuals reduce their footprint. Go to Edenbee. See how others have managed it. Set yourself goals. Track your progress.
But we don’t live in isolation. Most of us work. What about business use? All those offices burning away at night, the taxis, the couriers, the printed emails. It feels so wasteful, but how can individuals create change in a huge organisation?
That’s the problem we decided to tackle. Our idea is called Footsie. We’re pitching it to the Social Innovation Camp, and hopefully they’ll like it. At the same time, we’re looking for some seed money. Unltd seems like a promising avenue.
Let us know what you think of the idea, and if you’d like to help.
